1-One of the most frequently asked questions is the following: can a foreign woman who is divorced come to Italy in order to remarry? And if so, are there specific conditions with which she must comply?
The answer to the first part of the question is affirmative. A woman who is divorced abroad certainly may remarry civilly in Italy. Moreover, and also in response to the second part of the question, in order to dispel any doubts regarding the paternity of children, Italian Law orders that a foreign divorced woman may not remarry until three hundred days have passed from the dissolution, annulment or from the termination of the legal effects of the previous marriage, save for particular cases such as, for example, de facto separations that have lasted over three years or marriages that have not been consummated. Nevertheless, through a special procedure, one may in any case contract a civil marriage even without complying with the above-mentioned condition. In fact, by filing a petition with the district Italian Court, a special authorization may be obtained that will permit a foreign woman who has divorced abroad and wishes to remarry in Italy to do so without waiting the three hundred days provided for by the provisions of Italian Law. This petition must be accompanied by a series of documents, among which, first and foremost, a medical certification issued by a hospital, which clearly and unequivocally states that the woman is not pregnant.

2- Does the Italian law in any way defend the rights of foreigners who have booked a sojourn in Italy in a hotel or farm-holiday facility only to find, upon their arrival, that their rooms are occupied by others?
This too is a frequently recurring event. In such cases, the foreigner must send the hotel or farm-holiday structure where the booking was made a registered letter with return receipt, within 10 days of becoming aware of the fact, requesting a fair compensation for damages as well as the reimbursement of any additional charges incurred (for example, the choice of another hotel or of another farm-holiday facility).
